Welcome to Tabernacle, New Jersey's BSA Troop 439!
There are about 30 scouts from the Tabernacle area in our troop. The troop is mostly run by the scouts, who learn leadership from the program. We participate in many events throughout the year where we learn things like cooking, leaving no trace, and setting up a tent. We also do good things for the community by doing road cleanup and Eagle Scout projects, like installing exercise equipment in the township park.
Many of our scouts gain the honor of becoming Eagle Scouts, the highest and hardest to achieve rank in scouting.
From fishing and biking to camping and hiking, Troop 439 does a lot of different things each year. We also go rock climbing, backpacking, and do COPE, (challenging outdoor physical experience). Every summer, Troop 439 goes to Camp Ockanickon in Pennsylvania where we spend a week. Our troop has about 30 members, and many were invited to join Order of the Arrow, scouting's honor society.
For the 2012-2013 scouting year we have several trips we will be going on. As always, in September we will be going to the Carranza Memorial for our Court of Honor. The Court of Honor is an event in which the scouts are rewarded for their hard work with merit badges and rank advancements. In October we will be participating in "Pumpkin Chuckin" and the helping with the "Haunted Woods". In November, we have a COPE trip to Ockanickon. In December we have a rock climbing trip at Rockville Climbing Center and a Court of Honor party. We go to Belleplain State Forest in January and helping out with the Pinewood Derby, and participating in the Klondike Derby in February. We have a backpacking trip in March and April, and there's plenty more that we do.
